Saudi Arabia to Host the 10th IUCN Regional Conservation Forum for West Asia

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – 5 September 2024 - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Center for Wildlife (NCW), is hosting the 10th International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Regional Conservation Forum for West Asia in Riyadh from September 9-11. The event will be attended by His Excellency Eng. Abdulrahman AlFadley, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture and Chairman of the Board of the National Center for Wildlife, along with Her Excellency Razan Al Mubarak, President of the IUCN.
The forum will bring together over 200 specialists and experts representing IUCN members from the West Asia region, as well as officials from the IUCN West Asia Regional Office and various entities within Saudi Arabia.
Held every four years and hosted by one of the 13 member countries in the region, the IUCN Regional Conservation Forum is a significant platform for fostering collaboration among IUCN members in West Asia. It provides an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and expertise, addressing shared environmental challenges, and developing effective conservation strategies. Additionally, the forum will serve as a preparatory meeting for regional participation in the 2025 IUCN World Conservation Congress and will promote enhanced cooperation among members in the region to preserve biodiversity.
This forum reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing leadership in environmental conservation and biodiversity protection as part of its Vision 2030 goals. The outcomes of this forum will play a key role in shaping the region’s contributions to the 2025 IUCN World Conservation Congress and the future of biodiversity conservation in West Asia.
